No TV

Lately Joe and I have been forgoing the normal TV crap for some of our favorite old shows we recently bought on DVD - Five Mile Creek and Christy. We really have enjoyed sitting down to dinner and enjoying a good show we know we won't have to worry about gratuitous sex or violence and that actually carries some sort of moral.

We have also been putting together a puzzle too (CSI, with a hidden message). Now writing this, I am beginning fear that we sound like old farts. BUT I really have enjoyed it and come off a little less stressed.

Any one else have any shows to recommend?

Jon and I don't watch much tv any more, because he's not home many evenings. But we have watched a lot of movies (during lunch, etc). Lately we've been watching films done by Christians. They're not always the greatest quality, but they have really good morals and, like you said, we don't have to worry about sex and violence. I'm not sure how many films are out there like that, but I'd like to find more, because I'm sick of the stuff on TV and most movies.

Leanna, I love Five Mile Creek! I haven't seen it in ages, though. I didn't think it was even available any more. Of course, Christy is great, too.

What else to recommend? hmmm, the oldies I guess... Leave it to Beaver, Andy Griffith, etc. They're corny, but fun.

Sadly, Reality TV has taken over, and it will only get worse this summer with all the spoofs that come on. I'm contemplating a Netflix account to catch up on movies we haven't seen. But with both TV and movies, you're right, there's not a whole lot that's wholesome entertainment out there. Sigh.

Check out my most recent blog on this issue. Brings up some debates re: whether justifying sex, violance and profanity is worth avoiding film (and TV).

Sadly, most films done by Christians...really aren't that great. But they're getting there. But I would discourage only watching Christian made films.

Yeah, I can only take so much of the Christian films, they are getting better, but a lot of them are so poorly written or try to beat you over the head with "religion" it gets a little frustrating.

So our quest continues. We did the Andy Griffith thing for a while with the little dvds you can buy for a $1 or on TV. And then we even did some Bonanza, but couldn't quite get into that as much. BUT the theme music on ALL is great!
